Darkmoon Faire – New Roller Coaster Coming in Patch 8.1.5!

The Darkmoon Faire is a monthly event in World of Warcraft where you can travel to Darkmoon Island and experience all kinds of attractions, exclusive vendors, and a wide variety of activities. It's one of the biggest world events when it comes to collectors, with a ton of mounts, pets, toys, achievements and transmogrification items that you cannot find anywhere else.

The Darkmoon Faire is also the most common time for players to level Reputations up, using the boost obtained either from riding the Darkmoon Carousel, https://www.wowhead.com/spell=46668/whee, or from using one of the fancy https://www.wowhead.com/item=93730/darkmoon-top-hats.

Patch 8.1.5 New Content: Roller Coaster

In the "World of Warcraft: What's Next" panel at Blizzcon Blizzard has revealed that Patch 8.1.5 will bring updates to the Brawler's Guild, Micro-Holidays, but also to Darkmoon Faire!

In an interview by Wowhead with Blizzard we learned more about the new Roller Coaster:

  • It’s a motion sickness simulator. First-person POV. Enjoy. Or don’t.
  • The rollercoaster was a labor of love from an artist on the team, when he first started at Blizzard as a passion project. It sat to the side for a while, until some lull time during the “Hackathon” week when he had more time to work on it. Then it was so far along, they decided to finish it off!
  • Rewards will be added to the faire as always—can’t name them off the top of their head, but there are always new things to chase from evergreen content, so they try to add rewards where it makes sense. For example, the Brawler’s Guild will get a new cool mount, transmog, and questline.

The first achievement you will probably get is https://www.wowhead.com/achievement=6019/come-one-come-all, obtained for taking the portal in Mulgore/Goldshire that teleports you to the Darkmoon Island. You can find Darkmoon Faire Mystic Mage in all major capital cities that can take you to the location of the portals.

Darkmoon Races

For these achievements you will need to compete in the two Darkmoon races at the end of the island with all the different mounts they have. Every mount has different abilities. The races have multiple checkpoints that you have to hit, and several items and traps on the tracks, to help or hinder you. There will be a bell tolling during the race, indicating how much time has passed since the start. To complete the achievements you will need to finish the race in the number of tolls indicated in the achievement.

Racing Strider

There are two extra achievements with the Racing Strider, https://www.wowhead.com/achievement=9755/darkmoon-race-enthusiast for just finishing Welcome to the Darkmoon Races (the semi-tutorial race), or The Real Race, and https://www.wowhead.com/achievement=9793/big-race-enthusiast, awarded for finishing The Real Big Race in less than 40 tolls.

There is one extra achievement with the Wanderluster, https://www.wowhead.com/achievement=9819/darkmoon-like-the-wind for gliding for more than 10 seconds. It's easily obtainable during The Real Big Race.

Darkmoon Arena

Starting at 00:00 and every 3h during the Darkmoon Faire, a chest will appear inside the Darkmoon Arena. You will be hostile to all other players except the ones in your party. The objective is to loot the chest before anyone else. Opening the chest has a ~10 sec. cast. You will get a https://www.wowhead.com/item=74034/pit-fighter trinket which starts a quest, and some other Darkmoon goodies.

If you open the chest a 13th time after getting the Master Pit Fighter, you will recieve the trinket https://www.wowhead.com/item=126949/returning-champion to use on any character.

Blight Boar

The Blight Boar is a band that performs in the Cauldron of Rock, in the eastern Darkmoon Island woods every hour on the half hour (00:30, 1:30, etc.). The Death Metal Knight will come to crash the performance and players will have to defeat him. They can also catch Bolts of Light to gain "fan" points, and dodge Banshee Walls to avoid losing "fan" points. After the Death Metal Knight is defeated, there will be Ghouls attacking Devlynn Styx. You can attack them to kick them away and gain "fan" points.
